[at the manor today, sora seems to be standing at the front and giving it a good once-over. he's been inside a few times already, strangely drawn to this place, but when izumo strolls past him he'll raise a gloved hand in her direction.]
[ oooh spooky! unfortunately izumo is not dressed nearly as spooky for one reason or another, but she'll wave at him never the less. also ghost stories, huh? that's some dangerous to talk about. ]
I might have an invested interest in learning some new ones.
[...izumo you don't have a lot of people you like enough to even try, so he just kind of nods and pretends he has no idea who she even means.]
Fair enough. We'll scout and see what's inside and you can report back to them. [he'll begin to walk toward the entrance, arms behind his head.] It doesn't look too big, so we should be able to cover the grounds pretty fast.
[if this was because alphinaud broke the rule that week i don't think sora ever found out, i'm losing it. anyway.]
...it's still early in the week. We didn't exactly think pirates were gonna attack the port or dinosaurs would show up in the jungle, did we? [there is always a reason to be concerned about shenanigans.]
[ (yes, yes it was) and surprise to no one that she definitely found out. nevertheless—she'll recall her slap fight with the skeleton girlfriend(?) and watching a triceratops nearly be killed by a trap... ]
Oh, don't remind me about the pirates or the dinosaurs.
[ SHE FEELS SO TIRED? ]
You had to deal with that giant squid thing, didn't you?
The kraken, yeah. It wasn't the first time I've fought one but at least this one seemed a little more willing to negotiate. The dinosaurs were mostly new though.
[speaking of dinosaurs though. a miniature parasaurolophus seems to crawl its way out of sora's collar and peer over his head with an inquisitive blink toward izumo. it's wearing a little red bow but also a vampire cape.]
Yeah. And skeleton pirates. And some other stuff. [that whole memory may as well have been port royal as far as he's concerned. also i'm crying, sora notices the new friend peeking out of izumo's collar but purposefully chooses not to mention it.]
If it's just a haunted manor or whatever, the most we're gonna see is a few spooks. All of our senses are back, too, so whatever's going on this week is something different.
[at least it is dark enough they probably don't notice the bubbles looming around them.]
[ sora casually like I Do Not See when it comes to izumo's new friend. it's fine. honestly, all of is fine because she's given up on trying to fully understand the things that come out of sora's mouth when it comes to all of the places that he has been. instead she'll just have a look see about what's around (mostly). ]
Yeah, honestly, it makes me kind of nervous about what kind of thing that we'll be up against. The first two weeks were...
[ nope. she sure isn't going to elaborate on that and actually wouldn't this be a great time to run into some bubbles? because yeah, they sure don't, so when izumo walks right into one they're greeted with something oh-so pleasant. her context. ]
[he turns his head as if to ask her to elaborate because izumo, please, your words. except he doesn't get that far before the bubble is popped and the scene plays out before him.
it's not like he's never transformed before. magic has been used to determine how he'll appear in each new world, but there's something so uncomfortable about watching this even if it sure does put things into perspective. as everything fades away, he can almost see the tails twitching in the shadows behind her, and the last words seem to stick out.
"your life has no value."
...bad. if it were anyone else, he would grab them, stop them from moving and offer sympathy in the form of physical comfort of some kind. but he's learned by now that izumo needs to be the one to make the first move, and it's for that reason he's silent and still, turning to face her with wide, curious eyes.]
[ of all of the crummy things that she had to remember.
but, she guesses, if there was something to remember then it wouldn't the most terrible thing than to remember the last thing that she knew before being brought here. at least she could still stomach it and she'll slowly turn to sora as she fails to know how to look at him. she know want he wants to do, probably, but... it's not the kind of contact that she wants. ]
You get it a bit now?
[ the reason why she reacted so terribly when she was first brought here and how she lashed out at him. there was no other fate for her. no one was coming to rescue her...she was simply dying in front of a man who cared nothing for her.
her life has no value, and yet, ironically, she was still around despite of it. ]
A bit, yeah. [it's lighthearted in tone, but his expression is serious enough to say he absolutely gets what the problem was.] But...why? What were they...why you?
give her a moment to decide how to explain this in the simplest fashion that both covers everything and explains just enough so that the amount of questions would be limited to the appropriate amounts. ]
A lab experiment. I'm the replacement for the person before me.
I could believe that, yeah. But since the fox demon doesn't exist...they tried to turn you into a demon instead? [it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to him but then again he's from a place where he was housing three people's hearts in his own so whatever.]
There has to be a way to stop that when we get you back. That can't be the end.
No, not exactly. Demon does exist—what you saw was what happened after I took it upon myself. It's known as "invoking" where I welcome the demon to use my body for it inhabit.
[ and then, well, the rest? she couldn't control the demon and it was slowly eating away at her soul, her mind... ]
The only way to stop it is to get rid of the demon but there's no hope for that.
Like possession. [that's a familiar concept but it doesn't make it better, considering. and for a long moment he's quiet like he's not sure he wants to continue...]
...did you ever talk to Shima before he died? About your home.
w4 monday
How do you feel about ghost stories?

I might have an invested interest in learning some new ones.

Might. [he gestures toward the house.] This place has to be full of 'em. I was gonna go check it out. Wanna come?
no subject
[ she'll look over towards the house and, well, it reads as being completely shady (or potentially so) but it's fine. ]
Sure, that sounds fine to me. I was thinking to anyway.

I guess so, which might be for the best. Imagine if it was much bigger than people might actually find themselves caught in there.
...if there really is something to be concerned about.

[ for the sake of things, i'm going to have izumo complete be obvious of the weeny dino because if she didn't she'd forget the entire conversation. ]
I guess in a way, so have I. Mine broke up into smaller versions of itself and that was annoying.
[ countdown until she notices and just moments before she does—her own tiny friend pops out from her collar. ]

If you could believe it—they want to make an elixir of revitalization that borders on immortality and believe the fox demon to be the key to it all.

I did. We spoke about it as soon as we arrived.

He brought me to that place.
