What's a cantrip? [he has asked "what's an x?" multiple times this weekend already, but he's mostly just curious.] Elsa and I thought it might be that the magic of this world is stronger than ours, or it's conflicting and that's why nobody can use their powers anymore.
[...normally he wouldn't immediately say something about it in a place where he's alone and doesn't know why he's here, but lup seems nice enough.]
My magic doesn't work, but I also can't summon my Keyblade anymore. [that's because it's magic, stupid, but in his mind they're two separate things.]
[ "lup seems nice enough," sora thinks as lup bullies mob into owing her fifty gold in another thread ]
Cantrip's a spell that doesn't cost a spellslot. They're usually low effort stuff like Mending. [ a beat. ] Wait, wait, I have - so many questions, do you already know Elsa? What's a Keyblade?
Never heard of it. [not that it's a big deal, but huh. cool. other-world magic. he's about to ask something but he hears the questions and nods instead.]
But yeah! Her world was in trouble so we met her and her sister a little while ago to get rid of the Heartless and save Arendelle. The Keyblade's my weapon. I've had it for a few years.
It's a weapon used to help with the balance of the light and the darkness. [plainly said, and he looks up at the ceiling for a bit to think of how to describe it.] It's as bigger than a sword and it helps me use my magic and can unlock any lock while sealing the keyholes of other worlds to protect them. There's all kinds of them out there, but only certain people can wield them.
[oh. he looks sheepish for a sec, and then he shakes his head and looks back at the screen of ddr instead of at lup.]
You think? I don't know. [for someone who's been fighting with people in public about being a hero, he seems a little hesitant to agree.] It's not like I did everything by myself. I couldn't have without my friends.
How do you just forget your hands are freezing? [is she ready for this? this is a bonafide pout coming from sora as he stares up at her. that was so rude? he's an islander, the cold always bothered him anyway.]
he hasn't known lup for very long at all, but he can at least understand that what he's hearing is actually something real and something to be taken seriously. for a moment, he settles for looking at her blankly like he's trying to process it, followed by a moment where that same expression flickers to something a little unsettled and sympathetic. it's hard to say exactly what he might be thinking about that, but after some time where he weighs on his words he begins to talk.]
...guess you're right. That is worth it. Everybody deserves a second chance to be able to live and be themselves. [...] I'm glad you got yours.
[ she's already gearing up for some sort of pep talk, because sora seems like the sort of kid to give a long speech about how life is worth living and friendship is magic and all that, and like, she doesn't disagree, but. it's practically required for her to make a gagging face when someone does it to her.
she doesn't, this time, because it's simple as it is. ]
Yeah, me too. [ and she reaches up to pull her hair down from the ponytail. he doesn't need to know the rest, she thinks. ] Anyway, no bummers. You hungry?
[well. yeah that's true, but no need to pull out the big guns right now. for some reason it's simple today and he nods in agreement to something that isn't quite said.
instead though, he considers the question and also gives her another smile. no bummers.]
Yeah. [the answer's always going to be yes, he's a growing teenage boy.] The kitchen has a lot of supplies. I've been trying to practice some of the recipes I've learned but some of them take a really long time.
Not if you know what you're doing, which I do. The hardest part is feeding it through the machine, honestly. And it tastes loads better than store bought.
What kind of sauce do you want? I can make a mean alfredo. Or we could do spaghetti.

Please tell me the Keyblade is something cooler than what it sounds like. Because it sounds super dorky.

Unlock - seal the -- what the fuck. [ she sounds bemused. ] Oh, god, you're a fucking protag, aren't you? That makes so much sense.

You can take some credit. In fact, I won't let go of your face until you do.

Why are your hands so cooold?! [AHHHH GET AWAY GET AWAY!!! he's bringing up his hands to try and push hers off of his face.]

That's how cooking should be. None of this microwave dinner bullshit, I'm gonna teach you right. Ever made pasta from scratch before?
no subject
Nope. A lot of what I've learned is a little fancy, I guess. But pasta sounds okay. Is it hard to make from scratch?
