[it's been a busy morning, but sora always makes time for a friend. it's why the moment he spots alyssa he stops in his path and turns around to approach her.]
Alyssa! [and he bounds up to her.] Did you hear about what's going on?
[ unsurprisingly, alyssa's attention is focused upon her phs when sora comes across her outside the planetarium. she's leaning against the wall, frowning as she looks down at the device... sora's voice brings her back to reality, though, and she gives him a curt nod of acknowledgement. ]
Yeah. They found her body in the woods but nobody else seems to know how it got there or what happened last night. [...but he tilts his head.] What're you reading?
[ she turns her phs to face him; it's currently on the message saying that hajime has been removed. ]
You might have actually been onto something that first day we all showed up, about the different sources. This first one... doesn't seem like it was sent by the Leaders, does it?
...I guess that kind of idea isn't entirely out of the question. I wonder if it has its own representation or manifestation... or why the Leaders have to speak for it.
If it doesn't have its own manifestation, could be why the Leaders are here to speak for it. I don't even know what it would look like if it did have a form though.
[ alyssa is so tired, both physically and emotionally, everyone needs to STOP GETTING HURT?? it's a little later in the day when she comes by to find sora, letting other people fuss over him first before she decides to check in. ]
Uh huh. Just out of nowhere. None of us are really sure how it happened, but we all ended up in this place with two different paths. I didn't even know about the other group until I got back.
We had a blood trail and a trail of purple slime to follow. Blanca and Shiro followed the blood, Alex and I took the other trail. We had to work our way up and through this creepy lab and fight a few monsters.
[...this is all very, very generic and given the way he says it there's more to it than that. but she didn't ask for details so this is what she's getting right now.]
[sora's been spending a lot of time on the howling rose, if only because he likes ships and he likes the sea. he probably shouldn't be climbing everywhere while his burns are still healing, but today he's made his way up to the crow's nest once more to look out over the harbor and toward the town.
it makes it easy to spot alyssa though when she passes by on the deck, and he leans forward to wave a hand.]
Ahoy there! [it's even said in a cute pirate accent, which he drops quickly.] Just the person I wanted to talk to.
[ at this point, alyssa has realized it's something of a lost cause to try and lecture sora (or anyone for that matter, why the fuck do people continue to do things when they are GREVIOUSLY INJURED), so it's just with a little shake of her head that she greets sora back. she can't deny that his enthusiasm isn't infectious, though, and she gives him a mock salute. ]
So you heard about some of us disappearing last week and ending up in other places, right? Me, Alex, Blanca and Shiro in one place, and then Chiron, Won, Xie Lian and Ochako in the other. I asked the leaders and they said it sounded a lot like we ended up in a memory of some kind.
Won's group found a report. It sounded like it was written by one of the leaders because it talks about us, and how we're adjusting to everything. And how they took off their mask for someone that was from the same place they were. None of it was really bad, but it sounded like someone who was comfortable.
[first and foremost.] But...when we were trapped in that memory, we fought a monster that said some things to us.
It was like..."Do you believe you can change destiny? Time has already been written. There's nothing you can do, is there? Except try, try again. But you'll never make it."
It was weird because it didn't fit in with the rest of what we'd experienced in that place. And when I struck its sword, time froze around us. And then it said "not yet. But remember, this is your last chance."
I wanted to know if you had any things about it, knowing what we know about the memories and nova. Plus the part where even this place is a memory of a world where the nova's been disturbed.
[ she... just kind of blinks for a second, before her face cracks into a wry sort of smile. ]
Wow, it sounds like someone's been crazy busy since the last time we talked. [ she'll reach out to give him a pat on the shoulder... except. shockie :( ] —Ow! Sorry, I keep forgetting about that...
[ that aside, it looks like it's time for her to go into thinky mode... ]
Could it be that your groups were reliving the memories of the Leaders themselves? They supposedly lost theirs to stop it from happening to us, after all... and if the voice you heard is supposed to imply that their motivation is to change the future...
[ ... sora will get a pulse of apprehension as she trails off. ]
[alyssa gets a cycle of sora being very pleased with himself! and then also very surprised and a slight yelp with the shock.]
I am over that rule. [let him touch people!! but his expression melts back into his own thinky mode as he waits.]
I think...maybe? I don't know about the Leaders, but they're definitely memories. I talked to one of them and they said that's what it sounded like, but when I described it nothing clicked. Could've just been it wasn't theirs, or could've been it really was a mix of stuff they can't identify.
[...he tilts his head.] What do you think about that? Changing things like that.
[ she almost instinctively tries to pat him again, but she catches herself this time! mood af, sora, have some annoyance... ]
Well... maybe I misspoke, because that would assume they even knew about the future to begin with.
[ she tilts her head, contemplative. ]
If you have no way of knowing what to expect, then you could see anything you do as affecting the future, couldn't you? Unless you mean to change the past in order to affect the present, in hopes of a better reality than the one you know—in other words, the future of the past.

Mm-mm. It's almost like the Realm itself is talking to us...? Or it's something we don't even know about yet.

What do you have to report, Captain?

You were doing research on time and space, right? I heard a couple of things I wanted to get your opinion on.

Oh yeah? This is quite literally my area of expertise. Go on, I'm listening.
