[it's not like sora didn't notice that shamspeare had some amount of feelings about iris's death. it's just that he didn't exactly think the guy would want to talk to him so soon after delivering the news.
later in the day though when sora's out and around (idly looking for clues, trying to take his mind off of stuff, something), he finds shamspeare ahead of him. his approach is cautious but purposeful as he appears in shamspeare's line of vision.]
...hey. Are you okay? [he will just. come right out and say it.]
[ despite the cautious approach, shamspeare still jumps a little when he's alerted to sora's presence, and immediately puts on a big smile out of habit before realizing that's not the proper emotion for this situation. he quickly takes it down several notches, though the result is just sort of stiff and awkward. ]
Hm? Ah— [ he puts his hands in the pockets of his flannel shirt. ] Yes, I am quite well, though thy concern be most kind!
[he has half a mind to ask if shamspeare always speaks like this, but he decides it's probably better not to rock the boat when something like this happened.]
When I talked to one of her truck friends earlier, she said Iris was with her that afternoon. We don't know what happened after that. [...] Sorry for delivering the news like that. We didn't want people not to know.
[ a little ??? at why he's getting this apology... but then, sora is quite close to the others from his world, isn't he? (he saw those kisses.) perhaps this is hitting a little close to home for him. ]
I should not fault thee for seeking to get the word out. Verily, to be on guard 'gainst this apparent unseen enemy be necessity if we hope not to suffer such woes further!
[listen sometimes...you have a little too much experience of finding and losing people to think it won't impact other people.]
I do want everyone to know what we're up against. And I don't want people to suffer while we're here. [...] But some people might feel a little more upset than others. I know a lot of people liked her.
[ sora honey you are doing your best with what you have to work with ]
I'faith, I knew her by neither sight nor sound, though she did know me by both. It seemeth the young Eastern pair who lent their aid to mine upstairs neighbour but a few days ago were friends of hers.
A lawyer and his aide, who didst defend my neighbour in court when he found himself wrongly accused of a wicked crime. I personally met them but once, in a brief encounter outside my lodgings.
[ just kind of doing a twirl and stabbing gesture here ]
A woman walking on her merry way, when lo, a knife did come upon her out the fog! A stab in the back, an unkind cut indeed, and with that one cut was that great tree fell'd!
My neighbour didst have the misfortune of being nearby when the deed occurred, and fled in fear, scattering his just-purchased books upon the road. All who saw assumed his flight to be that of a criminal from the scene of his crime!

[ ok i'm glad you played that case because i'm now spoiling the end of it here lmao ]
I was myself no spectator, but as I would understand it, 'twas a matter of finding the loose threads in the witnesses' webs of words and pulling 'til they did come unravell'd, and rewriting the narrative accordingly.
In the end, lo, 'twas but an unthinkable accident — a knife from an open window above [ now just miming a knife plummeting down from the sky ], and the pitiable woman an utter victim of circumstance! For one born under such an unlucky star, that she doth still breathe seems a miracle!
So someone dropped a knife out the window and a lady almost died, but they blamed your neighbor because he seemed guilty. [just. so he can try to understand that.]
...it's weird. I heard about a few people who disappeared recently. They met with a man named Ryuunosuke who was a defense attorney, and they had to prove his innocent in a case involving squirrels and prove the right facts to some guy named Herlock? I thought it was just something about this place, but they sound like they're real people that people here know about.
A squirrel trainer had been murdered, and I guess Ryuunosuke was accused of being the culprit. A few people from our group here had to help prove his innocent and point out that it was a different squirrel trainer...something like that.

It's no big deal. [he never minds checking on people, but.] You just left kind of suddenly. I wanted to make sure.

'Twas a shock, is all... and, of course, a tragedy, for one so young to meet such a fate. Truly, the stars didst align in a way most cruel!

She seemed to know who you are. Did you recognize her?
[you know, speaking of public interactions.]

"Runo" and "Susie"? [it's a shot in the dark based on what iris has told him, and he's at least figured out those probably aren't their real names.]

[ he has no clue what their actual names are. ]

So they had to prove your neighbor didn't do it, right? How did that work? Do you know what they went through at all?
